Method 1: Restore Chrome Icon From Start Menu
One of the easiest ways to put the Google Chrome icon on your desktop is to drag and drop it from Start Menu.
Here’s how to go about it.
Step 1: Minimize all the open windows on your computer so that only the desktop is visible. You can press the Show desktop icon present at the bottom-right corner too.
Step 2: Open the Start Menu on your computer by clicking the Start Menu icon. Alternatively, press the Windows key on your keyboard to open Start Menu.
Step 3: Look for Google Chrome from the list of apps. Now drag and drop it onto the desktop.
Tip: You can pin Chrome to Start Menu tiles as well. For that, right-click on Google Chrome and select Pin to Start Menu.
The Google Chrome icon will appear on the desktop. You can move it and place it anywhere you like.
Tip: If you don’t see Google Chrome in Start Menu, you should re-install Chrome, as shown in method 5.
Putting a Chrome Icon at the Bottom of the Screen in Windows 10 (Guide with Pictures)
The steps in this article were performed on a laptop computer using the Windows 10 operating system. Note that this guide will require that you have already downloaded and installed Chrome.
Step 2: Right-click on the Chrome search result and choose the Pin to taskbar option
Note that the steps above are not exclusive to Google Chrome. You can use the same method to add most desktop app icons to the taskbar if you would like to make it a little easier to launch them.
Create a shortcut to Firefox on your desktop. You can do this by typing “Firefox” into your Start menu, right-clicking on the icon, and clicking “Open File Location.”
In the new File Explorer window, right-click Firefox and click “Create Shortcut.” A prompt will appear, saying, “Windows can’t create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?” Click “Yes.”
Right-click the new Firefox icon on your desktop, and click “Properties.” In the “Target” field, insert the full URL of the website you want to pin after the quotation mark. Here’s an example of what the “Target” field should look like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" https://www.howtogeek.com
From your desktop, right-click on the shortcut, and either click “Pin to Start” or “Pin to Taskbar.” You can now delete the shortcut on your desktop.

Method 5: Reinstall Chrome
If by following the above methods you are still unable to add the Chrome icon to the desktop, you should re-install Chrome. For that, first, uninstall Chrome by right-clicking on the Chrome icon in Start Menu. Select Uninstall.
Once uninstalled, restart the computer. Then install Chrome again.
Tip: Always check and keep your Chrome browser updated.
How to add a Google Chrome icon to your Windows desktop
Once you’re sure that you have Google Chrome installed, follow the below steps:
1. Go to your desktop and click on the “Windows” icon in the bottom left corner of your screen. Be sure to close any other windows beforehand — open windows will prevent you from adding the icon to your desktop.
2. Scroll down and find Google Chrome.
3. Click on the icon and drag it onto your desktop.
You now have a Google Chrome icon on your desktop. An even easier way to access Google Chrome? Pin the icon to your task bar at the bottom of your screen. Just right click on the icon and select “Pin to taskbar.”
Your Google Chrome Taskbar Icon
Now that you have a Google Chrome desktop icon and a start menu icon you may be wondering whether it’s just as easy to create a taskbar icon. To add Google Chrome on your taskbar, you have several options.
The first option is to get started as described in the previous examples above, so click your Windows 10 start button and type “chrome” (without the quotes), which will bring up Google Chrome in the “Best match” list.
Then right-click the Google Chrome app and select “Pin to taskbar”.
A different approach is to start Google Chrome (for instance by double-clicking your Google Chrome desktop icon that you just created) and working with the icon that will then automatically appear on your taskbar.
You can right-click the Google Chrome program icon on your taskbar and select “Pin to taskbar” from the menu in order to, um, pin the icon to your taskbar.
